A national award for Swedish design
Utmärkt Svensk Form is Svensk Form's most prestigious award. It is awarded annually to products, materials and environments that demonstrate outstanding design and contribute to the development and visibility of Swedish design, both nationally and internationally.
Unlike many other design awards, it is not possible to apply for Excellent Swedish Design. Instead, the selection is based on a comprehensive survey conducted by Svensk Form together with a jury, the editor-in-chief of Form and the organization's regional associations. The result is a collection of works that reflect the most relevant, innovative and significant in Swedish design right now.
The jury assesses the works based on several aspects, where the height of the idea, artistic quality, sustainability, social relevance and craftsmanship excellence are some of the factors that weigh heavily. The works range from timeless everyday objects to advanced material solutions and site-specific environments - always with a clear connection to our present and future.
By reviving the long-standing award, which was originally established in 1983, Svensk Form wants to recognize design that is not only of a high aesthetic standard, but also contributes to the cultural heritage of the future and strengthens Sweden's role on the international design scene.
The prize is awarded every year in September and is celebrated with a ceremony followed by an exhibition of the winning works. The exhibition opens the following spring in the next host city and remains on display until September, when new recipients are announced.
