Banal buildings

Banal buildings, sometimes centrally located in the city, other times on its outskirts, in the countryside, or as inconspicuous forms next to more prominent buildings, are fascinating because they fulfill an important but often overlooked function in society: as maintainers of everyday normality.

Jury motivation

With careful attention to everyday buildings threatened with demolition, the project addresses a central architectural concern of our time: the need for generative maintenance and a critical awareness of the consequences of an irresponsible building culture. The project is accompanied by a book, and in one of its versions it took the form of an exhibition constructed entirely from materials found on site in a building facing demolition. The rooms were opened to the public for the first time, who were invited to reflect.

Scholarship: Falu Red Paint

Through a sketch grant, Falu Rödfärg gives designers the opportunity to explore and shape the place of red paint in contemporary and future homes.
