Split Fiction game - Hazelight Studios/Electronic Arts

Split Fiction is a third-person cooperative action adventure from Hazelight Studios and EA Originals. The game is designed for two players, locally or online, where you control authors Mio and Zoe who are stuck in their own fantasy and sci-fi stories. Each level offers new mechanics, puzzles and enemies - from dragons and cyber-ninjas to hoverboards and dance duels. Side Stories provide additional variety. Split Fiction was released in March 2025 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S and in June for Switch 2. It is built in Unreal Engine 5 and supports "Friend's Pass", which allows a friend to play without owning the game.

Jury motivation

Split Fiction combines storytelling, interactivity and sustainability in a strong design. By raising questions about identity, relationships and social structures, the game creates space for reflection, dialog and participation, with inclusive design and collaboration at its core.

Split Fiction is characterized by carefully developed aesthetics and game mechanics that make the experience both engaging and accessible. It is an example of how games can be both entertainment and a tool for community engagement, learning and cultural renewal. A thought-provoking and inclusive project that not only reflects the present but also shapes the future way of thinking, creating and being together.
