Medical vest Nil Medical Vestpack - Martin Hanberger/Nil Medical
The Nile Medical Vestpack is a portable solution for patients requiring continuous infusion, originally developed for children undergoing cancer treatment. The vest replaces traditional IV poles and allows the equipment to be worn on the body, allowing greater freedom of movement and reducing the risk of entanglement. It has been developed in close collaboration with children, parents, healthcare professionals and design and safety experts, with a focus on safety and functionality. The design language is made to feel comfortable even for younger patients. The project has been supported by the Swedish Childhood Cancer Fund, Vinnova and Region Västerbotten and is currently used in healthcare to facilitate treatment and improve quality of life, not only for children with cancer but also for other patients with long-term infusion needs.
Jury motivation
The Nile Medical Vestpack shows how design can improve lives. Designed for children and adolescents who need to carry medical devices in their daily lives, the vest replaces traditional IV stands with an ergonomic and discreet garment. By integrating tubing, pumps and fluids in a safe and flexible way, it gives patients the freedom to move, play and live more normally even during treatment.
Developed in close consultation with healthcare professionals, patients and families, this is a solution where every detail is carefully considered to ensure safety, freedom of movement and dignity. The vest is easy to use, safe to wear and made with durability in mind.
The Nil Medical Vestpack is more than an assistive device. It is a system for independence and quality of life, a strong example of how design can contribute to a more resilient society where design not only solves problems but also creates meaning, care and human presence.
