Motivation:
PRO ALM is named Shape Bearer of the Year on Gotland for its inspiring work in linking design, tradition, innovation and sustainability in a unique way by lifting the material from the elm tree. The elms have a widespread problem with Dutch elm disease, and it is feared that all elms on Gotland will die out. What can we do with the material elm? PRO ALM is aimed at designers, producers and craftsmen and is based on both pride and confidence in the future of Gotland. The Pro Alm project shows how form can be a force for creative business development, where culture, aesthetics and the environment meet and can also reach beyond the island. With this award, Svensk Form Gotland wants to pay tribute to the project's significant contribution - and at the same time open doors to new collaborations that strengthen the Gotland form field and continue the development of elm.
