Permafrost - Mold breakfast in Örebro with Mattias Käll

November 13, 2025 | 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
Free - 25kr

(NOTE! Changed day)

Through art, Mattias explores our relationship with each other and the rest of creation. He often looks at our faltering economic system and the way we consume. It makes him think about how distance to manufacturing, lack of knowledge and social structures make us less empathetic.
What happens when we replace natural ecosystems, plants and animals shaped over tens of thousands of years with artificial, man-made systems, processes and products? And how do we mend our broken relationship with each other and nature?

Mattias often works on long projects that include reserarch and meetings with researchers from other fields. He enjoys documenting processes and procedures. Mattias often visualizes volumes, weights and quantities. Every now and then he carries things around to feel and understand. The end result is often photographic series, objects, films and sometimes performances.

Mattias has worked on topics such as food waste, packaging plastics, fast fashion, permafrost, industrial animal husbandry, biodiversity, forests as carbon sinks, migration and small-scale agriculture.

During the design breakfast, he will show a number of projects and talk about his journey from working as a graphic designer at an advertising agency to working with art with a critical perspective on consumption and growth.

Address: Näbbtorgsgatan 2, 1tr, Örebro.
All design enthusiasts welcome. Free for members, 25 SEK for others. No registration needed.
