The Candela P-12 Hydrofoil – Candela Technology

The Candela P-12 is the world’s first electric hydrofoil ferry, developed for public transportation by sea. By lifting the hull above the water’s surface, drag is significantly reduced, resulting in higher speeds and a longer range with considerably lower energy consumption, noise, and emissions.

Jury motivation

Through advanced hull technology, low energy consumption, and a clear user-centered approach, the possibilities for the future of maritime transport are being reshaped. The project combines Swedish design and engineering in a transportation system where efficiency, accessibility, and environmental sustainability work in harmony. The Candela P-12 has been awarded the Excellent Swedish Design 2026 prize for how innovation, sustainability, and design are paving the way for new forms of climate-friendly maritime mobility.
